Below is the typical timeline that most people will follow to achieve their goal of being an airline pilot.
FLIGHT TRAINING, 0 – 1 year
-Complete your Private Pilot, Instrument, Commercial single engine, Commercial multi-engine, and Flight instructor training.
TIME BUILDING, 1 – 3 years
-Flight instructing to build the hours required for the ATP certificate.
REGIONAL AIRLINE, 3 – 7 years
-You will typically spend 2 years as a first officer, then after upgrading, you will spend 2 years as a captain.
MAJOR AIRLINE, 7 – End of Career
-You will typically spend 5 years as a first officer, then you will stay as a captain until retirement.
